Leaning Tower of Pisa
11.05.2009
On our lovely visit to Italy my travelers group decided to take a visit and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. This tower has a lean of about 3.4 degrees. The tower began leaning to the south-east after the poorly laid foundation began to move and settle differently in 1173. An interesting fact we found out while there was that During World War II, the Allies discovered that the Nazis were using it as an observation post. A U.S. Army sergeant was briefly entrusted with the fate of the tower and his decision not to call in an artillery strike saved the tower from destruction. Good thing he didn't because now we all get to look at this very interesting tower.
